For years, Volkswagen has offered drivers around the world (including right here in Roseville), the chance to drive clean-diesel variants of their most popular cars. That's right, models like the Volkswagen Jetta and Passat are now available with diesel powertrains. But what if we told you that soon enough, you'll be able to get an EV Bug or a Hybrid Jetta?

Before the North American International Auto Show, rumor had it that the German automaker would be unveiling an EV concept alongside the gas-electric hybrid variant of the Jetta. It was unclear what shape the electric vehicle would take, but we're happy to say it's a very sporty-looking Beetle. Or, what Vee-Dub is calling the E-Bugster concept.

The E-Bugster features a 114-hp electric motor and a range of more than 100 miles per charge. But it's really the looks of the EV that captured the audience in Detroit. Flared fenders, 20-inch wheels and a flat roof give it the looks of a racecar, combined with some styling that hints at the Beetle of the '60s.

As for the Jetta hybrid, it's powered by a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine that gets assistance from an electric motor powered by a 220-volt, 1.1 kWh battery. In pure electric mode, drivers will be able to go as fast as 44 mph for just over a mile before the engine kicks in. An EPA-estimated 45-mpg rivals the fuel-economy of some very well-established competition. Pricing has yet to be announced, but we do know that the hybrid Jetta will be rolling into Kuni Roseville VW before the end of the year.

While the EV concept is only that - a concept - we hope to see it arrive here at Kuni Roseville Volkswagen not too long after the Jetta Hybrid.
